Course Information Semester 1 - 2010 - Goulburn CampusIn 2010, Moss Vale TAFE will be offering a variety of Arts & Media courses to suit beginners to advanced students. Enrolments for new students take place 1-7pm on Friday, 29 January 2010 and Monday, 1 February 2010. TAFE Plus weekend / short courses
Introductory coursesThese course are suitable for beginners or those with limited experiences and provides the basis for further studies or progression into higher award courses. Students gain practical experience in the safe use of a range of studio-based skills, making art work that is suitable for presenting for admission to higher award courses. This course will also introduce students to historical and contemporary practices and provide creative strategies to express the student’s vision.Application courses- Late applications are still being accepted, selection processes apply and applicants are required to attend an information session and present a portfolio of work. Information sessions are provided by appointment in the Art offices, Ground floor, Building V, Tuesday, 8 December 2009. An additional information session is also planned for Thursday, 28 January, 2010. Interested students are asked to phone faculty staff on 4823 1809 for further information. FINE ARTS Course No: 19145 (NRT) Award: ADVANCED Diploma This is a broad based course providing training for those wanting to be practicing artists or intending to work in the visual arts industry. Students are introduced to the practical studio skills required in Painting, Sculpture, Ceramics, Photography and Printmaking, supported by foundation studies in Drawing, History/theory Cultural Productions, Computing, OH&S, Portfolio Documentation, and Exhibition Studies. The emphasis is on studio work and is based on professional practices in the visual arts industry. Students can choose to first enrol in and complete the Diploma in Fine Arts before progressing onto the final stage of the Advanced Diploma in Fine Arts Full-time day - approximately 15 per week x 4 years Part-time day – average 6 hours per week x 6 years. Classes are proposed for Mon - Thurs 9am - 3.30pm. Entry Requirements: NSW HSC or equivalent or Fine Arts Certificate III, the presentation of a portfolio of work The following courses require students to attend an Information Session and present a portfolio. Interested students are asked to phone faculty staff on 4823 1809 to arrange an information session which will be held for Photoimaging and Visual Arts from 10am in the Art Offices, Floor 1, Building V, Monday, 7 December 2009. A separate information session for Ceramics will be held from 10am in the AV Room, V Block, Thursday, 10 December 2009. Additional information sessions are also planned for Thursday, 28 January, 2010. At the information session you will be asked to complete an expression of interest indicating your experience and to present a portfolio of work. Phone faculty staff on 4823 1800 for further information or to schedule your appointment PHOTOIMAGING Course No: 7539 (NRT) Award: Certificate IV This course gives you a broad based education in digital and wet based photography. It prepares you for entry into higher award courses, or gives you the necessary awareness and general skills for working in a range of photographic media within the arts/photography industry. You will develop your technical skills, creativity and understanding of the fine arts. Students learn to apply creative, critical, and visual judgement towards the production of professional quality images using a variety of lighting and image recording techniques and associated technologies that can be applied in a range of areas such as commercial, scientific/medical, government, journalism, fashion, etc. They will develop a personal expression of contemporary photography concepts to client related and individually developed and initiated projects. Part-time day – average 6 hours per week x 3 years Classes are proposed for Wednesday 9am – 3:30pm Entry Requirements: NSW HSC or equivalent. ADVANCED VISUAL ARTS Course No: 19298 (NRT) Award: Statement of Attainment This course is suitable for people with basic skills to use as a starting point to work towards either the Certificate IV in Visual Arts & Contemporary Craft or Certificate IV in Ceramics. Elective choices electives proposed for semester 1 are Drawing and Printmaking and for semester 2 Ceramics and Painting. Part-time Day - 1 year, 6 hpw, Thursday proposed, 9 am – 3:30 pm CERAMICS - GENERAL Course No: 19124 (NRT) Award: CERTIFICATE IV This course provides you with vocational training in the theoretical and practical aspects of ceramics for work in the ceramics industry as an exhibiting ceramic artist, studio production potter or ceramic manufacturer. Ceramics electives are supported by core studies in Drawing, History/Theory Cultural Productions, Design, Materials and Kiln Technologies and Professional Practices for Artists. Part-time day – 3 years, 9 hpw, Monday -Tuesday, 9am – 3:30pm Entry Requirements: Completion of the requirements for the award of the NSW HSC or equivalent, and submission of a portfolio; or completion of a Certificate III in Ceramics or equivalent, and submission of a portfolio. An information session for the following introductory level courses will be held 29 January, 2010, 12noon – 12.45am in the AV room, V Block ahead of the first enrolment session. Enrolment sessions will be held 1-7pm Friday, 29 January & Monday, 1 February 2010.These courses are suitable for beginners or those with limited experience - no application required, no formal entry requirements. They provide the basis for further studies, the development of a portfolio or progression into higher award courses. If you have an interest in more than one strand, it is possible for you to attend other classes with the one enrolment. All courses can be completed in 1 year or less. STUDIO WORK IN VISUAL ARTS Course No: 19296 (NRT) Award: Statement of Attainment Four different strands are offered in 2010: Mosaic Sculpture Strand: In this course students will develop their own sculptural mosaic projects whilst gaining an appreciation of time honoured traditions and contemporary applications of mosaic in the public artdomain. Fabric Printing strand: In this course students will develop their own images for printing on a range of surfaces, including fabric. Part-time day - 1 Semester, 6 hpw, Monday, 9am - 3:30pm Fabric Printing Part-time evening - 1 Year, 3.5 hpw, Thursday, 6pm - 9:30pm Mosaic sculpture VISUAL ARTS AND CONTEMPORARY CRAFT Course No: 19111 (NRT) Award: Certificate I Four different strands are offered in 2010: Digital photography strand: In this course students are introduced students to the basic practical and creative skills in digital photography. Students learn about digital camera operations, taking photographs and printing images. Elementary computer operations are also covered. Visual Arts strand - Drawing, Painting, Printmaking and Sculpture In this course students are introduced to the basic practical and creative skills used in a range of visual arts areas. Students gain practical experience in the safe use of a range of studio-based skills and materials across a range of media. Ceramics Strand: In this course students are introduced to designing and making their own ceramic pieces using various wheel and hand construction methods, basic surface treatment and glazing are covered along with a range of firing processes. Digital Printing/Photoshop Strand: This course provides you with experience and practice using PHOTOSHOP as an art-making tool. Whilst the course is specifically directed to the interests and needs of artists it will also be suitable for others wanting to learn the fundamentals of PHOTOSHOP as a creative tool. Part-time Evening - 1 Year, 4 hpw, Monday, 6pm – 10pm Digital Photography Part-time Evening - 1 Year, 4 hpw, Wednesday, 6pm – 10pm Ceramics Part-time Evening - 1 Year, 4 hpw, Thursday, 6pm – 10pm Visual Arts – Drawing, Painting, Printmaking, Sculpture Part-time Day - 1 Year, 4 hpw, Thursday, 9:30am – 2pm – Digital Printing / Photoshop VISUAL ARTS & CONTEMPORARY CRAFT Course No: 19112 (NRT) Award: Certificate II Three different strands are offered in 2010 Visual Arts strand - Drawing, Painting, Printmaking and Sculpture: In this course students are introduced to the basic practical and creative skills used in a range of visual arts areas. Students gain practical experience in the safe use of a range of studio-based skills. An awareness of art history is also gained along with the elements and principles of design. Photography strand : In this course students are introduced to the basic practical skills in photography. Students learn about both digital and analogue (film) camera operations, taking photographs, processing and printing black and white film and printing digital images. Students are introduced to working with PhotoshopCS4 as well as elementary computer operations. Ceramics strand : In this course students are introduced to designing making their own ceramic pieces using various wheel and hand construction methods. Basic surface treatment and glazing are covered along with a range of firing processes. An awareness of the history of ceramics is also gained along with the elements and principles of design. When you enrol you will need to pay the TAFE NSW Course Fee. If you currently hold a Commonwealth benefit or allowance you may be eligible to pay a concession fee of $50 rather than the full TAFE NSW Course Fee.
