In 2010, Moss Vale TAFE will be offering a variety of Arts & Media courses to suit beginners to advanced students.

Enrolments for new students take place 1-7pm on Friday, 29 January 2010 and Monday, 1 February 2010.

Introductory courses

These course are suitable for beginners or those with limited experiences and provides the basis for further studies or progression into higher award courses. Students gain practical experience in the safe use of a range of studio-based skills, making art work that is suitable for presenting for admission to higher award courses. This course will also introduce students to historical and contemporary practices and provide creative strategies to express the student’s vision.

Application courses- Late applications are still being accepted, selection processes apply and applicants are required to attend an information session and present a portfolio of work. Information sessions are provided by appointment in Studio K2 Tuesday, 8 December 2009. An additional information session may also be offered by appointment on Thursday, 28 January, 2010. FINE ARTS Course No: 19145 Award: DIPLOMA National Code: 91477NSW Full-time day - 4 Years, approx. 15hpw, Tue -Wed & Friday, 9am – 3.30pm Part-time day - 6 Years, aver. 6-9 hpw, Tue -Wed & Friday, 9am – 3.30pm This course gives you a broad based education in the Visual Arts, with an emphasis on the language of drawing as a fundamental skill. Students are introduced to the practical studio skills required in Painting, Sculpture, Ceramics and Printmaking, supported by foundation studies in Drawing, History/Theory Cultural Productions, Computing, OH&S, Portfolio Documentation, and Exhibition Studies. The emphasis is on studio work and is based on professional practices in the visual arts industry. This course is suitable for those wanting to be practicing artists or intending to work in the visual arts industry, or continuing into further study. Students who successfully complete this course can articulate into the Advanced Diploma in Fine Arts. Entry Requirements: NSW Higher School Certificate or equivalent (eg a Certificate III in Visual Arts and Contemporary Crafts) or mature age entry The following courses require students to attend an Information Session and present a portfolio. CERAMICS GENERAL Course No: 19124 (NRT) Award: CERTIFICATE IV Part-time day – 3 years, 9 hpw, Wed – Thurs 9am – 3.30pm This course is for those people intending to be practising ceramic artists or people who intend to work in the visual arts/ceramics sector. It provides the opportunity for students to develop a vision, direction and style based on a synthesis of practical and conceptual skills. It has an emphasis on studio work and is based on professional practices in the visual arts sector. Students will also gain an appreciation and understanding of the visual arts, both historically and culturally. Ceramics studies are supported with a range of compulsory core subject areas which include OH&S, drawing, design, professional arts and exhibition practices and art history. Entry Requirements: Completion of the requirements for the award of the NSW HSC or equivalent, and submission of a portfolio; or completion of a Certificate III in Ceramics or equivalent, or mature age entry and submission of a portfolio. CERAMICS Course No: 7565 (NRT) Award: DIPLOMA Part-time Day - 3 Years, 9 hpw, Thur-Fri, 9am- 3:30pm This is a continuing course with limited vacancies with current students completing the final stage. Students interested in completing a Diploma in Ceramics are enrolled first via 19124 Certificate IV Ceramics. Interested students are directed to information for 19124 Certificate IV in Ceramics. Entry Requirements: Completion of Year 12 with a minimum of 10 units in the NSW HSC Record of Achievement (or equivalent statement from another educational authority), or mature age entry plus submission of a portfolio. Alternatively, a Ceramics Certificate IV or equivalent, plus submission of a portfolio. An information session for the following courses will be held 29 January, 2010, 12noon – 12.45am in Block K Room K2 ahead of the first enrolment session.enrolment sessions will be held 1-7pm Friday, 29 January & Monday, 1 February 2010 - no application required, no formal entry requirements. ADVANCED VISUAL ARTS Course No: 19298 (NRT) Award: Statement of Attainment Part-time Evening - 1 Year, 4 hpw, Wednesday, 6 pm – 10pm Drawing and Printmaking Part-time Day - 1 year, 6 hpw, Thursday, 9 am – 3.30 pm Ceramics Part-time Day - 1 year, 6 hpw, Friday, 9 am – 3.30 pm 1st semester Sculpture, 2nd semester Painting Part-time day - 1 semester, 6hpw, Tuesday, 9am – 3.30pm Printmaking This course is suitable for people with basic skills to use as a starting point to work towards either the Certificate IV in Visual Arts & Contemporary Craft or Certificate IV in Ceramics. A range of electives choices are proposed: Drawing. Printmaking, Sculpture, Ceramics. The course requires the completion of a short but compulsory OH & S subject that may be timetabled on a different day to the elective choice. Students may be required to present a portfolio for entry to this course. STUDIO WORK IN VISUAL ARTS Course No: 19296 (NRT) Award: Statement of Attainment Part-time evening - 1 Year, 3.5 hpw, Wednesday, 6pm - 9:30pm This course is suitable for beginners or those with limited experience, elective choices proposed are Drawing and Sculpture. Three different strands are offered in 2010: Visual Arts (Painting, Drawing and Printmaking), Ceramics (including Ceramics sculpture) and Digital Photography. If you have an interest in all strands, it is possible for you to attend both strands with the one enrolment.. Visual Arts Strand – Monday class Drawing, Painting and Printmaking subjects are proposed for the year. The course introduces students to the basic practical and creative skills used in a range of media. Ceramics Strand –Tuesday and Wednesday evening classes available This course is for people who want to learn the basic skills of hand constructed and wheel made ceramics, applying surface and glaze treatments and kiln firing methods. The course provides foundation training at a basic studio level in the practical aspects of ceramics and ceramic sculpture. Digital Photography – Tuesday evening class This course is an introduction to digital photography and is suitable for beginners or those with limited experience. It gives students practical experience operating a digital camera, taking photographs, processing, storing and printing digital files. TAFE PLUS - Different enrolment and price structures apply.
